Nutritional Tips
With the impending proliferation of Influenza A (H1N1) virus, it is good that we adopt extra precautionary methods to safeguard ourselves against this virus. This is the time for us to strengthen our immunity as the H1N1 virus has been proven to be resistant to most flu medications. Below are some cruciferous and anti-viral foods that will greatly benefit us. Just incorporate a few from the list into your everyday diet and feel the difference!
Foods with Antiviral Activity
- To increase Glutathione levels = Asparagus, Avocado, Watermelon, Broccoli, Tangerine.
- To increase Lentinan levels = Shiitake Mushrooms.
- To increase Quercetin levels = Red & Yellow Onions, Red Grapes, Broccoli, Yellow Summer Squash.
- Protease Inhibitors (Protease Inhibitors are used to develop drugs to fight viral diseases, AIDS, Hepatitis C, etc.) = Beans, Corns, Nuts, Seeds.
- Take more Yogurt daily = Yogurt has anti-viral activity, for one reason because it spurs activity of natural killer cells that are particularly vicious in attacking viruses.
- Take more Vitamin B Complex = Vitamin B can be found in leafy green vegetables and legumes. When your body has an inadequate amount of Vitamin B, chromosomes in genes are more apt to break at ‘fragile’ points. This allows the virus to slip into the healthy cells’ genetic material, promoting initial changes that leads to a viral infection.
- Take more Lysine rich food = Lysine is an essential amino acid, which means that it is necessary for human health but cannot be made by the body. For this reason, lysine must be obtained from food. Good sources of lysine are foods rich in protein, including meat (specifically red meat, pork, and poultry), cheese (particularly parmesan), certain fish (such as cod and sardines), nuts, eggs, soybeans (particularly tofu, isolated soy protein, and defatted soybean flour), spirulina and fenugreek seed. What lysine does is it wraps itself around your cells, forming a barrier that viruses cannot penetrate, thus preventing infection.
Thank you for providing & sharing the utmost valuable precautionary measures for H1N1...
